What is the Purpose of the OSLC Mission Endowment Fund?
The purpose of the Fund is to inspire OSLC members to create and fulfill their visions of a Christian mission through their Planned Gifts. It is not the intent that this Fund compete with giving and mission designations within the annual church budget. The OSLC Mission Endowment Fund complements giving to fulfill the Statement of Mission.
What is a Planned Gift?
A Planned Gift is an intentional gift of money or other value directed to a charity during one's lifetime or given upon the death of the donor.
What are the Benefits of a Planned Gift?
- Planned Gifts enable Our Savior's Lutheran Church to be educationally strong for our children, grandchildren, and others for decades to come.
- A Planned Gift helps alleviate the concern that unforeseen healthcare costs will short circuit a portion of one's assets intended to be given for the Lord's work.
- The giver of a Planned Gift always experiences satisfactions of joy, peace, and Christian service.
Can a Planned Gift be Utilized in Retirement and Estate Planning?
Yes. There are various ways that a Planned Gift offers advantages to the donor in terms of retirement and estate planning. The Mission Endowment Fund Committee Members can answer your questions and assist you with these tasks.
May I Give a Gift as a Memorial?
Yes. Identify the person(s) or family to be memorialized on the OSLC Mission Endowment Fund Gift Form. If the gift is less than $5,000, you are encouraged to memorialize it through the OSLC Grace Fund. Contact a pastor or a church council member for more information regarding the OSLC Grace Fund.
Are Planned Gifts to the OSLC Mission Endowment Fund Tax Deductible?
Yes, as a general rule. Please consult your tax advisor or legal consultant for specific questions relating to charitable contributions.
May I stipulate how my Planned Gift is used?
Yes. The OSLC Mission Endowment Fund can hold and distribute assets designated for specific uses that do not conflict with the principles and purpose of the Fund as set forth in the OSLC Bylaws. Gifts are encouraged in the areas of Christian education, community and health services, and other activities representative of OSLC's mission.
Unrestricted gifts, however, are extremely useful because of their flexibility to be used where the need is greatest.
How does the OSLC Mission Endowment Fund use its income?
The OSLC Bylaws specify exactly how the Endowment Fund income and principal is distributed each year. Please contact a Committee Member for more information.
Who manages the OSLC Mission Endowment Fund?
The OSLC Mission Endowment Fund Committee manages the fund on behalf of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Committee members must be active members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and are elected by the OSLC congregation for a term of three years. Election to a consecutive three-year term is allowed. A "one-year break" is then required before a person can be re-elected to the committee. How may I make a Planned Gift?
For most people, cash, stocks, life insurance, bonds, IRAs, or bequests are the most common types of gifts presented to the OSLC Mission Endowment Fund. To discuss your Planned Gift or to convey your wishes about your gift, please complete the attached Gift Form and return it to the church office. Please be assured that your wishes will be held in strict confidence.
